When managing geotechnical risk, many engineering consulting and speciality construction companies face the dilemma of hiring an expert geo-professional or making do without. These alternatives both come with their share of risk!In-house Senior Expert: If a company finds a senior expert with amazing technical expertise, the business incurs a significant cost. This cost is magnified during slow economic times when that technical expert isn’t fully utilised, making it a financial risk during the downturn.No Senior Expert: Conversely, if a company does not bring a Chartered / Accredited senior expert on board, this creates immediate delivery risk. More importantly, it exposes the company to long-term unknown risks from future project performance. It is noted that this could be from under-design leading to some form of failure to over-design, adding unnecessary construction costs to Clients.How to reduce these risks? Some ideas may include:Do nothing (and hope for the best):
-Accept the risk of the added cost and hire a senior expert
